It has been said: “The world speaks in 7000 languages but sees in only one”.  Then, photography may be close to a universal language, appealing and having meaning to everyone.

Don Enkerud was raised in Western New York and earned a B.A. in Photography from the State University of New York at Buffalo.  Don has worked as a professional photographer for over 30 years.  He recently retired from the University of Florida where he was employed as faculty ophthalmic photographer.  In the past he owned a portrait studio and served as an officer for the Professional Photographers of North Central Florida.  He has proudly been a member of the Artisans' Guild Gallery and is a current member of the Gainesville Fine Arts Association. Don resides in Gainesville, Florida.

Don’s training was heavily influenced in understanding alternative methods in photography, with early work in Uranium prints, cyanotypes etc.  Compositionally, he believes strongly in the primal signals humans instinctively respond to.  It is not unusual to see large blocks of color, dominate shapes or colors, or asymmetric compositions in Don's photographs.

Photography is perhaps unique as an art form as it’s base technologies change over time, so have Don’s explorations with the medium.  He’s worked with pinhole imaging, Polaroid manipulation, mixed media, re-photography, collage and other techniques.  As photography moved away from silver based images and darkrooms, Don embraced digital manipulation.

Don’s current emphasis is to use these varied methods in tandem with an ability to see the unique and beautiful in everyday life – in moments that would otherwise be unremarkable.
